Ben works professionally as a music director, pianist, saxophonist and woodwind player, and as a theatre producer. He is in demand as an MD and conductor and has worked extensively with West End and Broadway talent, including Andrew Barth Feldman (Dear Evan Hansen, Broadway), Brodie Donougher (Billy Elliot the Musical, West End) and David Breeds (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, West End). He also endeavours to work often with drama school students and emerging talent and has gained a breadth of knowledge and experience of the musical theatre idiom.
Ben’s professional credits as music director include:
The Mad Ones - UK Premiere (2021), 54/Below Concert (2023)
Island Song - Phoenix Arts Club (2022)
Bare - A Pop Opera - Crazy Coqs (2022)
Twisted: The Untold Story of a Royal Vizier - Edinburgh Festival Fringe (2021)
As a saxophone player, Ben’s work focuses on commercial gigs and sessions. He can often be found as part of ‘the band’ at weddings and other functions and corporate events across the UK and beyond and has toured regularly as a saxophonist with ‘The Magic of Motown’ since 2019.
As a pianist, Ben’s work is primarily collaborative and incorporates a range of styles from G&S through to Pasek and Paul. He has a particular passion for working as music director on small-cast, contemporary pieces of musical theatre and his producing work is therefore often focused on this niche. Ben is a fluent sight reader and often acts as a rehearsal/audition pianist whilst also enjoying coaching 1:1, with a particular focus on Acting Through Song - this is informed by the wide range of experience he has working in all facets of musical theatre.
Ben studied jazz at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where he quickly specialised in commercial and contemporary music as well as theatre and devised works. Ben has been awarded a scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music in NYC and will start a master's degree in Writing and Design for Musical Theatre in late 2022.
